Nigeria has invited Algeria to participate in the ongoing privatisation of the downstream oil and gas industry in the country as well as the next upstream acreage bidding slated for the first quarter of 2005.
The invitation to Algeria came at the end of two-day deliberations between Nigeria and Algeria in Abuja where it was also agreed that to continue the exchange of information on the oil and gas value chain and the international markets to maximise the value of their hydrocarbon resources.
In a joint communiqu‚ signed for Nigeria by the Special Adviser to President on Petroleum, Dr. Edmund Daukoru and Algerian Minister Dr. Chakib Khelil, the duo reaffirmed their commitment to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, (TSGP) and the Trans Saharan Highway and the fiber optic cable.
They reiterated their support for the implementation of the Integrated Trans Saharan projects.
The Sponsors Management Committee (SMC) of the TSGP alsp approved the work programme of the Preliminary Study Team (PST) while the Nigerian delegation was informed that the process of ratifying the AFREC treaty would soon be completed.
