World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz, pictured in 2006, has announced the appointment of Obiageli "Oby" Ezekwesili, formerly education minister in Nigeria, as vice president of the bank for the African region.
Delta Airlines announces Atlanta-Lagos route

Lagos - United States-based Delta Airlines has announced plans to commence daily non-stop flights between Atlanta (Georgia) and Lagos (Nigeria), beginning December 3 2007.
The inaugural flight will take-off on 3 December from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta at 4.25 (local time) and arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at 9.25 a.m. (local time).

Nigeria gay law 'risks democracy'

A proposed Nigerian law banning same-sex marriages is a threat to democracy, says Human Rights Watch.
Writing to the Nigerian Senate, they said the legislation, "contravenes the basic rights to freedom of expression, conscience, association, and assembly".

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria (Reuters) - A car bomb at an army barracks in the southern Nigerian city of Port Harcourt killed three people on Wednesday evening, a military source said on Thursday, and militants said they had detonated the bomb.

Another window of foreign direct investment was recorded in Nigeria weekend as Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), the parent company of Ecobank Group invested a total of N17 billion ($134 million) towards increasing the capital base of its local subsidiary – Ecobank Nigeria Plc.

THE Paris Club has indicated to Nigeria how it should spend the $18 billion debt relief recently approved for the country. French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yves Gaudent, who represented the Paris Club at the signing of the fifth bilateral agreement between the government of Nigeria and the Paris Club at the weekend in Abuja, gave the direction at the end of the ceremony which lasted more than two hours.
